Organic Aromas & My favourite Essential Oils

I love candles, and aromatherapy in general, but I’m not a big fan of having huge candles on the go in the middle of summer. Scattered around my house are reed diffusers, but in my living room I have my new Organic Aromas plug-in diffuser. Super easy to use, super long lasting and it doesn’t produce heat. Since there is no heat involved, the chemical make-up of the essential oils is not changed, thus giving the full effect. This little diffuser is easy to assemble and works super quick. It’s easy to clean and doesn’t make a mess! I’ll be moving into a new house soon and it will take pride of place in my new living room.

essential oils my top 5

Lavender

Gorgeous lavender oil, which is extracted mostly from the flowers of the lavender plant, has a calming scent and so is great for relaxation and anxiety issues. It is common to put a few drops on your pillow before bed to help with a good nights sleep, but if you’re not a fan of getting oil on your sheets, then a few drops in a diffuser works great.

Orange

For me the smell of oranges reminds me of Italy, and that is enough for me. However it is also great for stress and general upset since orange essential oil has a direct effect on the olfactory system of the brain that quickly evokes emotional responses.

Peppermint

An intense essential oil, but still one of my favourites all the same. Peppermint essential oil contains menthol which induces a cooling sensation, and so the use of peppermint oil in a diffuser can help to cool you down. On top of that, peppermint oil is great for opening up your sinuses. I sometimes get plagued with hayfever in the summer, and so having the diffuser on overnight it great for my airways, as well my ability to sleep.

Chamomile

Chamomile is my go to essential oil for insomnia. The essential oil is an ancient herb which has therapeutic properties that include sedative and relaxing properties, so is a good choice to help you to relax and prepare for sleep. I sometimes combine chamomile oil with lavender oil if I have had a really long day and just want to go straight to sleep.

Ginger

Now this isn’t an essential oil that I would use all the time. Ginger is great for treating nausea, whether it is travel sickness or morning sickness. If I have spent too much time on a train or in the car, I can be left with that sickly feeling. In the winter I usually go for a ginger tea, but in the summer, the smell of ginger from my diffuser it perfect. Like the peppermint, the smell is quite intense, so you wouldn’t need to use too much at a time.
