Very Berry Antioxidant Smoothie

Living in the city, I am exposed to pollution all the time. This can cause free radicals in the body, which will wreak havoc on your health. Getting a good dose of anti-oxidants can help fight these free radicals.


Ingredients (1 large glass)

  • A handful of strawberries
  • A handful of blueberries
  • A small handful raspberries
  • A small handfull blackberries
  • 1 banana
  • 100ml of water (or almond milk if you would like it creamier)


  • 1 teaspoon of Acai berry powder
  • A small handful of goji berries


Cut up the strawberries and the banana, and then throw all the ingredients into your blender. Add 100ml of water or almond milk, and blend away. This will make one large glass. Blend for around 2 minutes, poor into a glass, and enjoy.

Blueberries – Rich in vitamin A and antioxidants, which can protect our cells from damage and inflammation. A lack of vitamin A in the diet can reduce the bodies ability to fight viruses.

Goji berries – These lovely little berries can help boost the immune system, protect against heart disease and cancer, and improve life expectancy due to their high vitamin C content. Goji berries also contain riboflavin (Vitamin B2), vitamin A, selenium and lots of other antioxidants.

Acai berries – Acai berries have a very high antioxidant content to help protect our cells from free radical damage. Acai berries are also very high in vitamin C, boosting the immune system. Recent studies have also suggested that acai berries play a role in killing off tumoruous cells before they have a chance to multiply

Bananas – The antioxidants in bananas include beta-carotene, lutein (a caratanoid that can protect our eyes from harmful sun rays), selenium and vitamins A, C and E. Think of lutein as little sunglasses over our eyes!

Raspberries and strawberries – Rich in Ellagic acid (an antioxidant). This may bind to cancer causing chemicals, and may also prevent the growth of cancer cells.
