Mint Chocolate Protein Bites

These great little bites are the easiest thing to put together! They are great for on the go, or if you just feel like a guilt free snack! My favourite chocolate treat is definitely ‘After Eights’. I love dark chocolate and mint, for me it is the best combination, so it seemed natural that I put these flavours into my next sweet treat recipe.

It is so important when exploring a plant-based diet that you get enough protein! There are so many options out there, but it can be easily overlooked if you were once used to a diet of meat, fish, eggs and dairy! I personally love pea protein, it is just right for me. It is a simple low fat and low sugar protein that is perfect for fueling everyday activities. On the other hand, you may prefer hemp protein, rice protein, soya protein or spirulina protein. The choice really is yours for this recipe.


Ingredients (Makes 20-22 bites)

  • 1 cup of medjool dates or dried dates that have been soaked overnight (at least 6 hours)
  • 1/2 cup (50g) of ground almonds
  • 3 tablespoons of cacao powder
  • 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds
  • 3 tablespoons of chia seeds
  • 4 tablespoons of pea protein (You can use your favourite plant-based protein if you prefer)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of organic mint extract
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil


This recipe is so easy, you just put all of your ingredients into your food processor and process for about a minute or two, until you get a nice sticky mixture. Make sure to pit the dates before hand if they have not already been pitted. If the mixture is not sticky, you can add a few extra dates, or an extra tablespoon of coconut oil to help bind the mixture together.

When ready, take about a teaspoons worth of mixture, press firmly together and then roll into a ball. This should make about 20 to 22 balls, depending on how big you make them. Optionally you can roll some of the bites it cacao powder and chia seeds to add more texture. When you’ve used all of the mixture, place them in the freezer for about an hour, and then store in the fridge for up to 1 month. Enjoy!
